apart, between 2026
apart, between is a mixed media reflection on the fragility of life. Themes of love, loss, and childhood are examined through contradictory materials, intricate paintings and textile pieces. The works emerged from my experience of carrying grief as well as love and joy. The creation of each work was its own catharsis; a direct translation of my heaviest feelings to material form. In my darkest hours I have been buoyed by the fact that there are multitudes of truths in all things; nothing is absolute. These works are an expression of that reality.
While making the works, I often thought, what if death was not a permanent end to life, but rather a separation? A movement to the next plane, souls distant but not gone. Observing this movement, this loss, is both the most painful and most human thing we can experience.
The coexistence of both despair and joy, pain and prosperity, is the tether that connects us all in a shared human experience. I invite you here to reconnect with your own loves and losses. To hold on to love and light, together.
